Caring for each other: Social Projects Happy Fox Health supports
Whether it's in our backyard or in a country we have never visited, the social projects we have donated to reach far and wide. From women’s reproductive rights to natural disasters, access to clean drinking water; to progressing health, access to education and business opportunities for women and families in regions that typically are underserved. Our goal is to donate, support, contribute and raise awareness of these non-profit projects that you too can support. We invite you to check out the important work that is being done by these great organizations.
KIVA
Our team has been funding projects on Kiva since 2015. Kiva is a micro-financing platform that provides access to communities that typically have limited or restricted access to banking services such as loans. They have since expanded to 80 countries, which we have lent to 13. Our intention via Kiva is to empower women to pursue professional or educational development for themselves and their families by growing their businesses or improving personal living conditions. If you would like to learn more or fund a loan you can do so for as little as $5.
Kiva brings financial access to traditionally excluded communities;
From racial discrimination and gender biases to armed conflict and climate change, there are many reasons why people are financially excluded. Underserved communities need financial access in order to create sustainable economic opportunity, yet they are denied fair and equitable access to resources. Kiva strives to bridge this gap and open the door to opportunity for every person around the world.
More than 1.7 billion people around the world are unbanked and can’t access the financial services they need. Kiva is an international nonprofit, founded in 2005 in San Francisco, with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive.
We do this by crowdfunding loans and unlocking capital for the underserved, improving the quality and cost of financial services, and addressing the underlying barriers to financial access around the world. Through Kiva's work, students can pay for tuition, women can start businesses, farmers are able to invest in equipment and families can afford needed emergency care.
At Kiva It's a loan, not a donation. Lending on Kiva creates a partnership of mutual dignity and makes it easy to touch more lives with the same dollar. Fund a loan, get repaid, fund another. Kiva creates the opportunity to play a special part in someone else's story. At Kiva, loans aren’t just about money—they’re a way to create connections and relationships.
Just some of the loans we have funded over the years!
Planned Parenthood
We believe every person should have safe access to abortion, birth control and sexual/reproductive health support. We can all help this movement by removing the stigma around past or lived experiences, promoting progressive and inclusive conversations and by respecting and supporting our sisters at work, school or home. When Roe v. Wade was overturned, we chose to make a donation to Planned Parenthood. If you too would like to donate, you can do so via their website.
History and work of Planned Parenthood:
Planned Parenthood, founded in 1916, has a history rooted in the activism of Margaret Sanger, who opened the first birth control clinic in 1916. Despite some controversial aspects in the early days, the organization has played a significant role in advancing reproductive health care, being a leading provider of affordable services and sex education, with nearly 600 health centers across the United States.
The organization's evolution includes pivotal moments such as the establishment of the Birth Control Clinical Research Bureau in 1923, the development of the birth control pill in 1956, and the subsequent advancements in reproductive health options. Planned Parenthood has faced challenges, including opposition to abortion rights, patient intimidation, violence against providers, and legal setbacks like the Hyde Amendment restricting abortion access for Medicaid recipients in 1976. Despite these obstacles, Planned Parenthood has consistently advocated for reproductive rights and expanded its services, responding to the changing political landscape.
In recent years, the organization has faced renewed threats to abortion rights, including the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022. Planned Parenthood remains committed to providing care, adapting to new challenges, and expanding its capacity to support patients in states where abortion remains legal. Ongoing efforts include addressing barriers to reproductive health care, advocating for comprehensive sex education, and navigating legal battles to protect essential medications like mifepristone.
Currently Planned Parenthood is the leading provider of high-quality, affordable health care, and the nation’s largest provider of sex education. More than 2 million patients each year rely on Planned Parenthood for expert, innovative, inclusive health services.
Maui Wildfires
Lahaina and Maui have a special place in the hearts of our team here at Happy Fox, as one of the places we feel the most deep connection with the ocean and its healing power. We are in awe of the strong and enduring culture of the community and we hope to embody the Aloha spirit within. After one of the most deadly wildfires in US history happened in humble Lahaina the heartbreaking loss of life, homes and history in the area we felt we must contribute to Go-fund me campaigns that were organized by community leaders that could get funds and resources to folks who needed it most.
